😂 Desi Lydic's Daily Show was great tonight. There was a joke at 5:09 that didn't land as hard as it should have because it was in the middle of a bunch of other jokes, and a joke at 6:03 that made me do a spit take.
🎥 ICYMI here's the trailer to The Social Reckoning, a companion piece to The Social Network. The first movie was directed by David Fincher, written by Aaron Sorkin, and based on Ben Mezrich's book The Accidental Billionaires. This one is written and directed by Sorkin and based on the Frances Haugen leak in 2021.
🧅 I recently recalled the existence of this absolute banger of a video the Onion gave us in late 2009. The Onion is still great (see here, here, and here), but I'm a longtime not a first time, so I remember classics like this (2002), this (2005), and this (2000) with fondness.
🏀 Marine Johnannes did this against the Atlanta Dream, because she is chaos with a ponytail and should never, ever change her game.
🏋️ Pete Hegseth is deeply unserious, Part 205,291. (The replies are bomb, please scroll down.)
🧠 Alice Wetterlund came up with the perfect way to describe what Tony Hinchcliffe does, because that thing is definitely not comedy.
🐴 Last but not least, my birthday came, my birthday went, and now it's all quiet on the Western Toronto front. All in all, it was a good one. Folks called, texted, and wrote emails. I high fived people in the Value Buds and Bar Neon, where I finished writing the chapter I shared a bit of the other day.
My partner, who is snoring next to me at the moment, was her usual delightful self, and pulled out all the stops —— including making me a key lime pie from scratch, gifting me this bad boy, and ordering us a sausage and rapini pizza from Mac's. Tomorrow we're going to Sana and Imanishi. I truly have no idea how I got lucky enough to be with this person, but I hope the ministry of whatever knows there ain't any takesies-backsies.
As per usual, I got sad because I always get sad on my birthday. Someone got me pretty mad, too, because people are disappointing and frustrating —— by which I mean "fallible and deserving of grace" even if I say those words through gritted teeth. Anger can often feel righteous, but this wasn't that. But it's okay. No one ever promised me a rose garden. And, truth told, I'm more of a tulip guy myself.
