This post is going up a bit later than it usually would because I'm still in Montreal on the little anniversary trip I mentioned on Friday.
As some of you know, I lived in Montreal on-and-off for almost 20 years before moving away "for good" in 2022. This is just my second time back since I left, and while it is as surreal as my first, the... surreality has settled, by which I mean I have been able enjoy Montreal as a tourist would for the first time in my life. Yes, I still feel connected to the place, and yes, I still know it intimately even if a few bars (Mal Necessaire, for one), restaurants, and friends aren't geographically where I left them, but it is very clear this time around that I am visiting.
They say you can never go home again, and if they're right I think what they're really saying is that if you are ever so intimately connected to a place that you are of it, you are almost necessarily destined to experience the odd pain of knowing when you are no longer of it even if you are still welcome to enjoy it as if you were.

๐ต๐ต Every time I walk past one particular intersection in Montreal I think of this song by White Lies. (Spotify)
๐ต๐ต Every time I am remotely near the Rialto in Montreal, I think of this song by Think About Life and my buddy Frank (who reads this blog) will likely remember why. (Spotify)
๐ต๐ต Way back whenever I was obsessed with the Heartless Bastards and seeing Erika Wennerstrom and the lads play this song at Green Room on St. Laurent (before we went and got drunk at Dieu Du Ciel!) made me radiate happiness for a solid week. (Spotify)
๐ฅ๐ฅ This is an old magazine story about the Green Room that was written and published after it burned down by a guy who... well, you'll see. (Maisonneuve)

๐บ๐บ Aging Toronto punks and my best Gen-Z friend aren't going to like it but the Imperial Pub is not long for this world. (BlogTO)
