If you are a member of a group chat and summarily skim said group chat instead of reading it thoroughly, because, idk, maybe you're the oldest member of the group chat and there are always between 50 and 200 messages you haven't read every time you check said group chat and there are only a certain number of minutes in the day ββ you still probably get the gist more often than not, and, more often than not, the gist is enough.
Thing is, sometimes it's not.
Sometimes, being a gister means that you drag your old ass to a group hang without realizing that you have tacitly agreed to play 18 holes of golf (something you have done once in 47 years and zero times in the last 20 years) while wearing baggy jeans and Doc Marten boots and nursing a shoulder injury.
That said, it was awesome and I can't wait to do it again (in five years).

π΅π΅ "If you need proof that dubstep is in excellent health, look at the lineups at some of the most intriguing cult festivals in Europe," writes Bandcamp's Oli Warwick. I enjoyed this piece and the variety of embedded tracks from artists including CarrΓ©, Delian Sound, Mia Koden, and Herbalistek way more than I thought I would. (Bandcamp)
π΅π΅ Was YouTubing and stumbled upon this lo-fi + neo soul +++ playlist and now I'm writing the post while listening to it because it's good as hell. (YouTube/@hyperbolicclub)
π«π« It's always a good time to watch one of the best and most iconic SNL digital shorts ever made. (YouTube/@thelonelyisland)
π₯π₯ Cory Doctorow wrote a banger of a post about free speech and censorship. Yes, it touches on that guy but also on ex-Facebook employee Sarah Wynn-Williams, who wrote "Careless People, a tell-all memoir recounting the callous, vicious acts of Facebook's top executives" ββ a book which prompted Facebook to "[bring] a private legal action against Wynn-Williams that is likely to force her into bankruptcy." (Pluralistic)
π€π€ People are using AI to attack their spouses and win arguments, which of course ends up with the dissolution of relationships. Like, this isn't complicated. The "endless, always-on emotional support" provided by ChatGPT and the like isn't actually emotional support but rather the outputs of a machine that most people are not smart enough, emotionally mature enough, or digitally sophisticated enough to use. (Futurism)
π€π€ Related: Daaaaa Pope a.k.a. Pope Leo XIV doesn't think there should be an AI version of him. He's right. (Futurism)
ππ Twitter posts were initially limited to 140ch. Then it was 280ch. Then some idiot bought it and allowed "Premium" users to write 4,000ch. Meta made Threads as a Twitter competitor with a 500ch limit per post. Somehow I missed that Threads is going to 10,000ch, but that was the scoop that came straight from the horse's mouth a few weeks ago. (Meta)
βΎβΎ A lot of Toronto Blue Jays fans believe there is a conspiracy against the Jays. I'm not usually one of those people. But the MLB Replay Center is based in New York (home of the Yankees, who are chasing the Jays in the standings) and the MLB Replay Center made the call that this catch was not a catch, so... π΅βπ½ It's never a bad time to watch live video of Chumbawumba performing "The Day The Nazi Died," and this version from Dusseldorf in 2000 is as good as any. (YouTube/@Huppelplopp1848)
