When it all comes crashing down, and it will, believe you me it will, there will be people who will be trying to make sense of it all. Some of those people will look to the past in order to build the future, which makes sense until you understand that's what we've been doing for a few thousand years.
Some say the past is prologue. Eugene O'Neill wrote "there is no present or future ββ only the past, happening over and over again ββ now.β I don't know about either of those things. The past sets the context for the present, sure, but it doesn't offer a blueprint for the future. To a certain degree, the future can be whatever we want it to be.
While we were walking home from the bar tonight ββ we watched Game 2 of the WNBA Finals there, and I wrote about it at the Rocker Step ββ I was moved to comment that it was cool that "going to the bar to watch the game" had, over the course of my lifetime, grown to include mainstream audiences watching women's sports. In a generation, the dudebros whose collective raison d'Γͺtre (apparently) is to talk shit about the WNBA online won't exist. What is new-ish now will eventually be colloquial and quotidian. In a way, that's progress.
