october 16 etc
From October 8 after the Blue Jays lost Game 3 of the ALDS to the Yankees:
We don't watch the games for the result. Yes, we want our team to win but we don't watch the games to witness the wins, nor do we watch the games to experience the wins.
We watch the games to be moved. We watch the games to prove that all the time we've spent watching the games was worth it, to prove that the time we spent watching the games wasn't wasted.
The momentum is what moves us.
This post is not about baseball. It's about how you fit into everything ββ including baseball.
That said, still gonna win.
From October 14 after the Blue Jays lost the first two games of the ALCS to the Mariners:
So yeah, the way the Jays have started this series is sub-optimal, and yeah, it is more likely that we lose the ALCS than win it, but unless I am mistaken the point of being a ride or die fan is to keep riding, so I'm staying in my saddle. Jays in 7. Giddy-up.
Baseball is a game about failure, momentum, and memory.
If you don't drown in the failures, you can seize the momentum. If you do, you can't. And lot of good things happen downstream of momentum.
That said, you have to learn from the failure ββ it can't just be about being tough enough to withstand it. You need to learn and incorporate what you've learned into your approach. Yes, you will still fail, but you will fail less, fail differently, and fail better. If you don't learn from it, experiencing failure has no practical value unless you have a humiliation kink, and while I ain't gonna yuck anyone's yum, this is not a quality I want in a ballplayer repping my town.
While I am both anxious and excited for tonight's game, I am also cautiously optimistic. Max Scherzer isn't the pitcher he used to be, but he's one of the best pitchers of his generation and I think the old dog still has some greatness in him.

π΅π I need to get in the right mood before watching a playoff game, and this Jungle track has been my go-to this postseason. (Spotify)
π΅βοΈ That said, this remastered version of a 30+ year old remix was playing while we were watching the game at a bar last night and I was delighted to find that the bass line still makes my brain release the good chemicals. (Spotify)
βΎβΎ If you don't know much about Max Scherzer and would like to, this 12-year-old story is a great place to start. Older Blue Jays fans: keep your eyes peeled for a Bill Caudill mention. (ESPN)
