A few weeks back Daniel and I worked collaboratively this piece making fun of Christine Brennan. We did something similar tonight in re: a similarly idiotic Threads post. I'm still working on editing it but it's a banger.
While editing, I caught myself thinking about what I wrote yesterday. It felt good to be in that part of my brain. I don't mind sharing that I took a look at some MA programs at TMU, York, and the University of Toronto earlier today. Would I go back to school at 48 or 49? Probably. Not to, like, escape the world or whatever —— I know a few too many people who have spent decades in and around academia because it's the only place they understand —– but just to level up. When I started at McGill in the fall of 1997, I was really turned on by the Cultural Studies program and the work of Barthes, Adorno, Horkheimer, McLuhan, Postman, Foucault, Dyer, etc, but I wanted to be a writer and get grounded in the Classics, so I majored in Literature instead.
Related: I had a drinking problem from 1997-2020.
Sidebar: in 1997 ENGL 275, Introduction to Cultural Studies, was taught by PBerkeley Kaite, whose 2.4/5 rating on Rate My Professors is the lowest I've ever seen.
