november 4 dem (jokes about how republicans got obliterated in the midterms)

A thing that used to be great on Twitter and is starting to get really good on Threads are big individual things or happenings that inspire all kinds of commentary and jokes. Big sporting events and tournaments (Super Bowl, World Cup, recently the WNBA Finals) are good for this.
Famous people dying —— that's another good one.
When a famous person dies and they were actually good people while they were alive (Dolly Parton is a good recent example), Twitter used to be —— and Threads currently is —— a place where lots of people would tell lots of stories about that person, or share old clips or articles about them, or talk about their own personal fan experiences, and you'd get to learn all kinds of little things and weird things about that person and the lives they impacted even if only through a film role or a song and, like, ask in the glow of a life well lived.
This said, it is way, way funnier when a famous person who sucked dies. And a corollary to that, kind of, is what bad outcomes happen to and for bad people.
A guy I used to be friends with used to ask me why I followed or cared about American politics. He didn't understand why I would think it was important —— and how could he? Being part of the hegemon makes you insular and myopic, I think, but insular and myopic in a way that is structurally similar to how psychopaths don't understand empathy. "I don't know anything about Canada, which is how it's supposed to be" was the undertone. "I don't know anything about people who are not like me, and why would I?" was the undertone. (Also, if I ever ask you a question so stupid that it is itself the answer, you have permission to shoot me in the head.)
Which brings us to yesterday's Midterm elections.
