We had to go to Victoria due to a family situation. We are home in Toronto now.
While in Victoria, I:
- carved a pumpkin
- learned how to play various board and card games
- watched the Blue Jays lose the World Series
- saw a seal, many hummingbirds, and a Northern Flicker
- skipped a lot of stones in the Pacific Ocean
- drank a lot of Phillips non-alc (delicious)
- took a million photos with my busted iPhone (one below)
- hung out with a bunch of my partner's friends (delightful)
- went to Tourist and the Artcade as I mentioned
Being out west was interesting. It was my first time in Victoria since the early 1990s, and the city enchanted me the same way it did back then. If you've never been, it's a beautiful small city, the people are nice, and, like many other places on the left coast, it is kinda sorta stuck in the 1990s (this is the highest compliment I can muster).
I hate Vancouver with a passion (there is no there there), and so in a very real way Victoria redeems the entire province for me. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing my handful of Vancouver friends when we go back out west for Christmas.
