A little while back (note to self: find the post and link it) I made mention of some old friends who had made their way into a post of mine like 20 years ago. One of them celebrated a birthday last month and I didn't call or text. I wanted to, and probably should have, but I've been holding the friendship up for most of the last 15 years and my back is tired. Besides, there are only so many times you can ask old friends to catch up or hang out or whatever else. I have resigned myself to the belief that I will let this thing die a natural death.
Friend breakups are tough, but we all go through them. A few months ago, I chatted about this with my friend AW and we (further) bonded over believing that should be more movies about friend breakups because that's a relatable, understandable, and universal kind of trope, and a trauma wildly underexplored by Hollywood.
