It was my birthday last Thursday. I am now 48.

When I turned 42, I started to write a post of sorts called something like Life, the Universe, and Everything. The gist was that I was going to cough 42 pieces of advice out into the world because I was hitting the Douglas Adams birthday. You get it.

I never finished that post because when I turned 42, in 2020, the world was still in the grips of the pandemic. My birthday party was a socially distanced affair in Parc La Fontaine, but it was fun, and my friend got a ticket for giving a cop the finger. We actually watched them look through a little municipal bylaws booklet (or whatever) to find something to charge her with. I think it was like "public lewdness" or some shit like that.

Related: a bunch of young Montreal-Nord cops are in trouble for exactly what you think they are in trouble for.

I never wrote Life, the Universe, and Everything. I don't think I ever will. It's a good post, but sometimes writing obvious stuff makes me feel stupid. People shouldn't need to read "call your friends" or "keep your word." But maybe that's the power of such things.

Anyway, call your friends and keep your word.
