First things first: RIP Catherine O'Hara
I'm not going to wax poetic about why Catherine O'Hara was awesome. You know. Or should know. I'll say that just because someone's gone doesn't mean they're gone. From a conversation with a buddy of mine earlier today:
Him: Sad, I love her work.
Me: The work remains!
The best part about art is that it outlives the artist. You're allowed to interact with art independently of your relationship with the artist, or your opinion of the artist. You're also allowed to resist what's common for what's comfortable. I get so bummed out when people toss out/sell their CDs and DVDs simply because streaming services exist (and physical media takes up space). When we do this we're trading artifacts for options. And, considering that a handful of companies own all the IP, those options are always subject to change.
Do me a favour. Go on Faceboook Marketplace and buy one a portable DVD player. You know, the one with the little screen and the tinny audio. Anyway, get one of those, and then go to the library and borrow (or some second-hand bookstore and buy) a DVD of a movie you really love and don't own. Then curl up in bed or on the couch, grab a pair of wired headphones, pop that movie in and just... watch a movie as if you have never owned a smartphone or subscribed to a streaming service.
On y va!
π΅π΅ This David Byrne song feels like something Catherine O'Hara would've liked to play in the car.
βπ½π I've been thinking of becoming a Wikipedian. I love the internet and I have been shouting about the corporatization (and resultant enshittification) of the internet since at least 2010, and I feel like I should do more to rage against the dying of the light or whatever.
π₯πΏ Feel free to download all of Rian Johnson's screenplays if you are so inclined.
βοΈπ So it's January 30, and if you own a Stendig Calendar you're probably about to change months. Stendig knows this, because they emailed me this earlier today. Pretty smart, imo.
πΈπͺπΈπͺ Look at this old-school IKEA ad.
π±πΌββοΈπ±πΌββοΈ Look at this old Kraftwerk poster.
ππ And then look at this dumb guy.
π² gonna all

Be good to yourself.
