This week has been just okay with a side of crumb but I'm putting it in the win column because sometimes winning means outplaying a cunning, talented opponent and sometimes winning simply means you didn't die.

Trust is an interesting thing. It's generally something you give freely until someone abuses or betrays that trust —— at which point you pull it back from that person and the wound you carry means that you are a bit more wary going forward. I say wary and not untrusting because one of the most motherfuckery parts of life is that you you can't just, like, stop trusting people. You can, but you shouldn't. So much of what we do and who we are and how we live revolves around trust and to never trust means to never really live, to never really be.

Thing is, I'm wondering if we tend to call something "trust" when it really isn't trust. Do we trust that the bus driver will get us to our destination safely? Sure. That's his job. But is that trust? Do we trust him to do his job or do we simply understand that it is unreasonable to worry that the bus driver will drive the bus into oncoming traffic or off a bridge (either on purpose or accidentally)?

Also: when we trust our friends are we trusting them because they're our friends or are they our friends because we trust them?

Also: we tend to trust those nearest to us and we tend to trust strangers that play roles in our lives (like the bus driver) but what about everyone else? Do we trust our co-workers or are they NPCs? Do we trust our friends' friends because of some weaker continuation of the bond that we have to assume or does everyone start at zero even if they are a legacy?

Most people down a few edibles and they contemplate the universe, the nature of life, the nature of love, the endless capacity of the human spirit, and so on. I down a few edibles and I explore taxonomies. And then I tell you about it. What does this say about us, reader?
