We hit the Raptors game with some friends tonight, and, on the subway back, I started making some vaguely salient points about how Raptors games offer a lot of different experiences within its main experience and that as an entertainment product, it goes out of its way to make fans come back game after game, year after year. In an age of inflation and shinkflation and enshittification and corporations only being able to achieve orgasm after fucking over the end user, this feels significant. I don't go to many movies anymore because I hate the experience half the time โโ people talking or second-screening in the theatre wrecked it for me. Actually, it's that I'm not allowed to murder people for talking and/or second-screening in the theatre that wrecked it for me. This stuff is a proof positive of civilizational decline, right up there with standing on the left side of an escalator. When I am king, those fucks will be the first against the wall.
Anyway, all I'm really saying is as everything in this timeline gets dumber and more evil and more corrupt by the day, it's great to feel like you got more than you paid for.
Related: I recently did a thing in one of my communities and was given a lot of plaudits by a lot of people and it made me feel uncomfortable. Not because I don't like credit, I'm a whore for that stuff (and so are you) but because the energy expenditure to do that thing that received the plaudits was so minimal that getting props for it felt wrong. Like, you're supposed to do the right thing. Anyway, the drama that ensued was pretty entertaining. It is so wild to me that in our culture, bitchiness and pettiness are female-coded. That's dude stuff! Human men are the softest and least self-aware creatures on earth and it's high time we stopped projecting.
