As I've mentioned a few times, it has been a weird week. It's true that no good deed goes unpunished, but it's also true that I still like doing good deeds. One of the truest things I know is that doing good feels good. Sometimes it really does seem like in this part of the world, the idea of "feeling good" and the concept of "being good" are somehow antithetical.
As the trope goes, morally good people are always at odds with themselves and live their lives under the weight of their goodness, whereas morally bad people simply don't have enough empathy for their badness to affect them adversely.
I don't think that's true. I think a lot of bad guys do bad things specifically because they feel bad. And I think they do those things because our culture rewards winning over everything.
Zero sum culture isn't just dumb, it's toxic. More to come.
