"I like that you post 'going minimal' instead of just not posting," my friend said to me in re: yesterday's post. I'm not sure if she was giving me a compliment but I like to think she was.

In re: that, I like that I am finding ways to blog consistently without expecting an essay to fall out of my fingers at the end of the day. It's actually quite difficult to put thoughts, feelings, and ideas down on paper/screen on a consistent basis. Sometimes ideas need to breathe before they get committed to the page, and they tend to do their breathing when you're not poking and prodding. That said, every now and again the idea gets born on the page while I write. Days like that are sweet like honey.

Also, the minimalist posts are also challenging in their own way. It's about curation, sure, but it's also about delivery.

When I started getting serious about writing a blog post every (week)day, I told myself that the consistency was the point. I have often been inconsistent in my personal writing practice, and writing a post every (week)day has become a way for me to be in touch with that part of myself. The writer part. Not the copywriter part. Not the content writer part. Not the UX writer part. The writer part. The part from way back. The part that understood from a young age that words were power.

Also, the minimalist posts are challenging in their own way. It's about curation, sure, but it's also about delivery.

I'm writing this from Victoria, where I am spending Christmas with my partner and her family (after spending a few days in Vancouver). It's been a pretty delightful time. I really like this city. I've started to say "maybe we could retire out here" to my partner and I think I actually mean it.

When I wake up, it'll be Christmas Day so I've dusted off a holiday season greeting that I came up with like 20 years ago and which has served me well: Merry Happy!
