I used to write an email newsletter called DMail. I've referenced it a few times over the past few months blogging here.

DMail was a legitimately good email newsletter but I didn't/couldn't devote nearly enough time and energy to it over the last few years I lived in Montreal. When it died, I wasn't surprised. DMail was not my first email newsletter thinger, though.

I started Less Than Ø in 2014, when I lived in Copenhagen. That was on TinyLetter. DMail was on Revue. Revue got bought by Twitter and after a few years of trying to turn it into a native newsletter tool for that platform (or something), Twitter eventually sunsetted it. I ported DMail's archives over to Substack in 2022 but I never really liked the feel of Substack's writing interface (even though I think it is a tremendous product) so I never actually wrote an issue of DMail there before destroying all traces of it.

In a way, my big blogging streak is comprised of tiny DMails. There's a bit of writing about something I'm thinking about or working through and then some links. The one DMail thing I haven't done on this blog is attach a curated 10-song Spotify playlist the way I used to do for every DMail issue after 0032.

I haven't done this here (yet?) for reasons including but not limited to that I don't use Spotify anymore. Still, I'm considering bringing that kind of feature to this blog. I miss curating something cool and sharing it with people who take the time to read my various missives.

TL;DR if you're one of the dozen or so people who text "I miss DMail playlists" to me regularly, stand to.

πŸ“·πŸ“Έ For about ten minutes back in the day I was very into iPhone photography. Because I'm broke and need inexpensive hobbies, I may get back into it. If I do, I'm definitely gonna mess with !Camera. (Not Boring)

βšΎπŸ‡°πŸ‡· I've seen a lot of celebrities throw a lot of ceremonial first pitches at ballgames and V from BTS cleared 99% of them. Nice form, good mechanics β€”β€” the kid is dialed in. (Twitter/MLB)

πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ "When you look around at Big Media, and wonder why it is such a fucking mess, much of the blame lays at the feet and on the shoulders of the industry’s Chief Failure Officers" writes Evan Shapiro. "Unfortunately, the United Committee for Increasing C-Suite Salaries never pays the price for their fails, because they deflect the blame into 'overhead' and cut thousands of jobs to distract from the fact that they have no fucking idea what they are doing." I'm a fan of media critics who go for the jugular and was recently alerted to this banger of a post from Shapiro's Media War & Peace by Montreal writer Arjun Basu. (Media War & Peace)

πŸŽ₯🌈 I posted 15 seconds of frames from Paris, Texas yesterday because I couldn't stop thinking about the colours and I'm posting it again today because I can't stop thinking about the colours. (combatdavey.net)
