Just a short one today because I had an anxiety attack that forced me stand into a cold shower. I'm fine now, but I seem to have acquired a food allergy/intolerance I didn't have two weeks ago. It's either that or a xenomorph newborn is going to pop out of me sometime soon, which I think I'd be okay with because we've been thinking about getting a pet.

We have long discussed getting a pet because we both like cats and dogs, but while my partner grew up with a cat and a dog, I did not, because I am somewhat allergic to both cats and dogs, and, moreover, my mother, who grew up with dogs, said she was allergic to dogs, and said that's why we never got one. That's not the reason. The reason is that it literally never came up when we were growing up. We didn't want one, so we didn't get one. My mom has retconned this for some reason.

She does this with fish as well. Like many, my mother does not like the smell or taste of fish, and so as a result we didn't eat a lot of fish growing up. Over the years, though, this aversion turned into an allergy. She is not allergic to fish but she says she is, as though it's something we all needed to know in case any of us was thinking about getting to the bottom of this not-liking-fish thing by jamming a mackerel in her mouth. "Don't do that," someone would say. "She's allergic. Go jam the mackerel into someone else's mouth. That boy from across the street is always talking and it's about time he stopped."

Earlier today a friend told me I should write a book of essays in the style of Chuck Klosterman because "society needs those again." He suggested "Dave Jaffer explains looksmaxxing" and I laughed, because the only things I really want to write essays about revolve around love and life, and looksmaxxers don't know what either of those things are.

Be good to yourself.
