Yesterday I wrote about how sports guys can also be smart guys, art guys, and Marc Augé guys. I also wrote about my lifelong fascination and frustration with how my/our culture goes out of its way to pigeonhole you/us.
Not to get too Jake Peralta on you, but stuff can be two things. And since people are made of stuff, it stands to reason that people can be two people. Or three. Or five. Or eight. I accidentally went Fibonacci for a bit there, but can you blame me? The only thing you can depend on in this fucked up timeline is math, but, also, this timeline is hopelessly fucked up precisely because a lot of dudes who were good at math were never encouraged to be good at or interested in anything else, and because of that we're going end up paying a monthly fee to access our childhood memories.
We were promised jetpacks. Instead, we got the gormless, unfuckable Nerd Reich.

I've always been frustrated at how my culture seeks to limit me. And you. And all of us. When I was a kid I would lose hours to these thoughts, and eventually developed an anxiety associated with them. My brain would get too hot. I would get dizzy. I would pass out. I would stare at the ceiling. I would count the little stucco kisses. I didn't understand and have never understood why complexity vis-à-vis people is often treated as a threat or reduced to a flaw. I've never understood why polymaths are lionized in fiction but sneered at irl. That said, I have recently been seeing the world, or, rather, my world, a lot more clearly. More to come. Maybe.
