Had one of those days that felt like two days.
I mean this in a good way.
I spent most of my day at the Ontario Transportation Expo shaking hands and chatting about buses and public transportation-related things. I'm fractional at a transit tech company and learning about the industry through the experience of doing my job —— content and strategy and relationship management, oh my! —— and, like, maybe it's the middle age speaking but it's all pretty interesting.
Anyway, time for your choons:
🎵🎵 Icona Pop, "I Don't Care"
Sometimes dumb things are dumb. Sometimes dumb things are awesome, perfect, and maybe even sublime. Icona Pop and Charli XCX created one of those second jobbers with "I Don't Care" in 2013. Yes 2013. Remember who you were back then? Remember how hot you were? Remember all the truly idiotic decisions you made back then? Isn't it a wonder you're still alive today? And isn't that perfect, and maybe even sublime?
🎵🎵 KATSEYE, "Internet Girl"
Sometimes dumb things are dumb. Sometimes dumb things are dumb but also fun and maybe a little bit interesting. We watched (and enjoyed!) the Netflix documentary about the casting/making of KATSEYE, but I don't know that I've been impressed with what they've released so far (although "Gnarly" pops into my head now and again. As for "Internet Girl," the driving, giddy-up beat lingered in my head well after I forgot about the song's facile, insipid, thematically inconsistent lyrics. Maybe someone else can do something with it or something like it.
🎵🎵 Lupe Fiasco ft. Luv Moore, "High Note"
Thought about Lupe for the first time in a while the other day and made a mental note to listen to some of his newer stuff. Tonight I was watching the Portland/Phoenix game and remembered, so I fucked around and ended up listening to this joint a few times for reasons including but not limited to that it is spiritually a 90s hip-hop track despite being a 2025 song.
🎵🎵 Andrew Bird, "Sisyphus"
This guy did the anthem at the Orioles game the other day, which led to my partner bringing up Andrew Bird, which made me remember my big Andrew Bird phase a few years ago with fondness, and here we are.
